CALIFORNIA

I was born in Ventura California on February 11, 1956. While my family was from the Missouri/Arkansas area, my parents had decided to move to California to “earn a stake” which they could then return home with. My father, Miles Appling was a meat-cutter and I believe at the time my mom (June Appling) was busy just raising my brother Phil and I. Obviously, I have very few memories of these early years in California. I do remember that we had a clubhouse that Dad built for us. At the time I thought it was really neat that he fixed a kitchen faucet to the house so we had water we could turn on and off in the clubhouse. We used this to great advantage making mud pies. I was baptized in the Evangelical Methodist Church.
